Green Smoothie

on Jan.15, 2012, under Veg

Today I decided to add something that might sound a little odd at first,
but I definitely recommend it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Huge Apple (a red delicious, just about 350 gr, it’s HUGE!)
  • 1 Orange (juiced, not whole)
  • 1 whole Clementine
  • 1 slice of Ginger (amazing for flavor, especially for people who usually don’t like ginger!)
  • 1 handful of Spinach (oh yeah) + a couple of lemon grass leaves
  • 1 Multi Vitamin tablet

Verdict:
9/10

The Spinach definitely gave it a green-fresh taste, very refreshing!
The best thing to drink before going for a workout, have a good one.

Today I made some Banana-Date shake, based on Clementine juice, holy sweet!
Good morning everyone!

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 Clementines (the juice is so orangey, I love it!)
  • 8-10 Dates (Fresh, did you know that with to the preserved they add sugar?)
  • 4-6 Bananas (That’s a lot of bananas for a shake)
  • Iron tablet.

Verdict:
9/10
The mother of all sweet things! Holy crap you have to try it to believe it!!
Hope my taste buds will reconstruct after this :)

Shake 3

on Dec.10, 2011, under Veg

Today I made an amazing Pineapple&Raspberry shake!
What a way to start the weekend…

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Pineapple (the sweeter the better, get the Yellow/Orange ones)
  • 1 Box (125 gr) of Raspberries (living in Berlin? At the Market on Kottbusser Brücke they cost 1 Euro for 2-3 boxes)
  • 1 Banana (so the Pienapple & Raspberries wouldn’t be too dominant)
  • half a cup Soy milk (not necessary if you have a strong blender, water is also ok)
  • Iron tablet (doesn’t add flavor, but why not).

Verdict:
10/10
This is one of those shakes that remind me why I bought my Blender.
Simply put – Amazing.

Shake 2

on Dec.09, 2011, under Veg

Today’s shake turned out a little heavy.
I think I should’ve put a little more soy milk and a little less dates.

Ingredients:
2 Bananas
1 Apple (pretty large)
1 Pear
5-6 Dates (one of the most delicious fruits of all time)
A small piece of Ginger
A cup of soy milk
A vitamin D tablet (not a must, but why not).

Verdict:
7/10
Tastes very good, but just too damn thick,
It’s all about proportions..

Shakes

on Dec.07, 2011, under Veg

For the past 2 months I’ve been drinking
every single morning 1 Liter fruit shake.

This is probably one of the best things I’ve done for myself.
It’s pretty much like an Energy bomb. Wakes me up completely.
(of course I can’t say the same about the 1 hour ride to the Uni)

Okara madness! (or: Recipe for Okara Burgers)

on Oct.16, 2011, under Berlin, Veg

Friday afternoon I made 3 Liters of Soy Milk
(which now I can say in retrospect… that was waaaay too much).
At any rate, the process making of soy milk is pretty simple:

Put the soy beans in water for 8-12 hours
(I just put them and forget about it for a day),
Put them in the blender with water in the ratio of 1/2.5
(1 cup soy, 2.5 cups water, or 2? or 3? just try it and see),
Then cook the mix until it boils (very recommended, makes it easier to strain afterwards), Wait until it cools down and strain it through a cloth (I use a kitchen towel).

Going Veg

on Oct.09, 2011, under Brainstorming, Veg

As some of you may know, for about a month now I haven’t been eating meat.
Last week (well actually on the 29th of September) I decided to become a Vegetarian.

I think my major factors were:

  • Environment
Did you know that the meat industry causes more CO2 emissions than all of our Transport combined?
that includes all of the Cars, Airplanes, Ships, everything!
Did you also know that for 1KG of beef the industry uses 16,000 Liters of water (?!)
Did you know that 80% of the Corn in the US is for feeding animals?
although 17.2 Million households are food insecure
Turns out even the UN agrees,
    Meat Is NOT Green
  • Health
Heart disease is killing more than 600,000 people a year in the US,
and it is the major cause of death for people over 65.
The connection between eating animals products and Heart disease is
    undeniable.
  • Compassion
Although it should be the first, it wasn’t the factor that actually made me move
to being a vegetarian. This factor is getting more important these days though.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video has about 30 frames per second.
    Meet your Meat
    Farm to Fridge
